Yoga

Simply meaning “to yoke” or to connect.

To start, we connect with breath, then with the body, eventually deepening a connection with your higher purpose and spirit for full “body-mind-spirit”

Yoga is a way of life to me. A way of opening us up to our fullest potential.

A way to heal layers of stored emotions and remove energy blockages. Allowing us to move and live life a little more vibrant and grateful. My classes are designed to help you move through these layers and come out the other side feeling grounded, happy, and balanced. There is a strong emphasis on the physical alignment and breath to ensure you practice safely as well as feel every moment of the practice to clear as much unneeded stress and energy as possible.

HATHA YOGA

Hatha Yoga sometimes is referred to as a balance of sun and moon energies in the body. This references bringing the body to a state of balance between opposites. From what I have learned, the word hatha translates to “effort” which is used towards the physical practice. Training through sometimes challenging poses, helps our mind stay calm in pursuing your higher soul connection (which was the origin of this yoga). These classes are less flowy, keeping an emphasis more on the postures, breath and meditative aspect rather than the transitions. However still transitioning safely through proper alignment and quieting the mind enough to feel the energy paths in the body.

YIN AND RESTORATIVE

The best kind of yoga! (because you just lounge…)

Yin yoga is meant to hold seated stretches and poses anywhere from 1 minute up to 5 minutes or more. The idea is to let go of tension, sink down and soften to allow your fascia to release and open up. I love this style as a complement to the stronger practices to help balance out. Especially when working with the emotions, staying still in a stretch and keeping the mind aware of what you feel, will help bring things to the surface, which can then be recognized and released.

While yin leaves you feeling very restored… I sprinkle both yin and proper restorative poses in throughout the class. “Restorative” ones generally just require less effort and feel like savanna but in different shapes. Both yin and restorative are extremely calming to the nervous system and are amazing for stress relief.

VINYASA

Vinyasa was my original love. The word itself means to move with intention. It gets labeled as a flowy class with a lot of push-ups (which is true!). But the deeper meaning is to be aware of your motions and thoughts, and to move with intention. At the beginning of class we set either a personal or group intention and keep that in mind as we flow through, moving on the breath. I love and appreciate the creativity of vinyasa classes. The way we live and position our bodies with phones, computers, different jobs and tasks all day long, I think it is important to change up the poses and shapes dependent on what is going on in the body. The more you practice vinyasa you begin to develop your intuition on how and why to move certain ways. These classes are high energy, fun and usually have quite a few core strengtheners as well as stability work.
